NCOST U16 2013-2014 Team showing off their hoody's with Patrick Lynott, NCOST alumni and current member of the Men's Quebec Team |
We had an awesome 2 back-to-back morning sessions today. We setup the apex drill on some easy terrain. This had the athletes focusing on achieving edge angle early in the turn creating a nice arc generating speed in most sections. On a steeper piece of real estate (Marty often refers to a nice strip of terrain this way) we setup a paneled slalom. Not only does setting up this environment create some fun for the athletes it also has them working in a quicker tempo achieving the edge angle with minimal external/internal distractions.
The athletes had a lot of time this afternoon to work on their homework. We did a light core circuit with a long stretch before dinner. Our dinner conversations are proving to be quite interesting at night. We have the most fun asking the athletes alpine ski related questions to see if they are keeping up with the sports activities globally. At dinner we play a quizzing game where the athletes work together as a room to answer the questions that we come up with for the night - if they answer 3 correctly they do not have to do the dishes. SO the last room to three questions does the dishes.
In keeping with our theme of angles, we were very lucky to catch Chris Powers and Ryan Malmberg with the men's Quebec team on the tail end of their Pano camp. NCOST alumni Patrick Lynott joined the group tonight for a team tuning session where the athletes had the opportunity to ask Pat questions about the little things that make the difference in their tuning. He did a wonderful job. It is very obvious that he is committed to his success in ski racing through every detail. Thanks Pat for paving the way tonight!
Tomorrow we ski back-to-back in the morning again. We are keeping our fingers crossed for great weather (it's been cold but not frigid), and amazing snow conditions as mother nature has been treating us well these last two days.
